NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -
Metro police say a man suspected of robbing a Nashville cab driver at knifepoint earlier this month has been arrested.
Jimmy Ray Ferrell, 34, is charged with aggravated robbery after the encounter, which was all captured on a video recording inside the vehicle.
The cabbie picked up the man June 12 in the 1300 block of Jones Avenue and took him to an apartment complex at 2400 Buena Vista Pike.
Before the suspect got out of the cab, he pulled out a knife, held it to the driver's neck and started screaming for his cash.
The two fought for a few minutes before the robber hopped the center console and forced the man from the driver's seat before getting away.
Police say the attack came after the suspect in the backseat made small talk with the cabbie.
"I think it was just casual conversation, talking to him about him having not been in a cab in a long time. Basically, he knew once he got to an area where he felt safe to rob him, he did that. He actually lured him into an area that he knew pretty well," said Metro police Detective Dean Haney.
Ferrell is jailed on $80,000 bond. Police said he has previous convictions for assault, felon in possession of a handgun, felony drug possession, resisting arrest, evading arrest, DUI, and theft.
As for the cab driver, the crime shook him up a little bit, but he was not injured.
