Dog beaten with electrical cord needs home

Posted: Updated:

A Golden Retriever mix named Patton spent four years of his life locked in a room with 10 other dogs suffering severe beatings from his owner.

"The man who turned them in said he disciplined him with electrical cords,"Jennifer Leveillee said. "All over his nose and face are white spots. Those are scars from the prongs of the cord."

Leveillee said that when Patton was first rescued, he would protect the other dogs he was rescued with by standing over them and growling at whoever tried to enter his crate. Leveillee believes he did the same thing to protect the pack of dogs at the home where he was abused.

"He's a hero. He is the only one that has scars," Leveillee said.

Angels Among Us Pet Rescue is a nonprofit no-kill shelter. Right now, Leveillee said the shelter is at full capacity. Getting Patton rescued is priority number one so he can find a new home and another dog in need can take his place.

"[The] Rescue is so full right now, we don't have enough fosters and to tell people, ‘no, we can't take your dog in' it just kills me," Leveillee said. "These dogs aren't broken. They aren't damaged permanently. All they need is a chance."

Leveillee said that the dogs' former owner was arrested on unrelated charges to animal abuse. Patton has been up for adoption for more than a month. Leveillee said he does not do well with cats or small dogs.
