Clayton County Sheriff Victor Hill avoiding cameras

Posted: Updated:

Clayton County Sheriff Victor Hill has denied media requests for interviews and avoided cameras and the media since he reclaimed the office he lost in 2008.

Last Thursday a CBS Atlanta news crew waited in the parking lot of a Clayton County restaurant where Hill was a guest speaker.

We wanted to ask Hill why he asked county commissioners to pay his personal legal debt.

When Hill pulled up in a black, county-issued SUV, he saw our news van and camera and then drove away.

Our news crew waited a few minutes and then parked the news truck across the street from the restaurant. Then that black SUV appeared - this time it parked behind the restaurant.

As soon as Hill stepped out, he looked across the street and saw the camera. The video shows Hill hesitated for a second then walked in the back door of the restaurant.

The news crew then parked next to Hill's SUV and waited for him to come out. While they were waiting they noticed another black, county-issued SUV pull up.

The county's top cop took two deputies out of service to pick him up - so he could avoid our Tough Questions.

Instead of going back out the back door, Hill dashed out the front door with his bodyguard.

"Why do you think taxpayers should pay your personal debt? Why are you avoiding us?" asked reporter Tony McNary.

Hill ignored the question and jumped in the front passenger seat of the SUV.
After Hill sped off, the driver parked in a different lot and Hill's bodyguard, a county deputy, walked up to get the SUV that Hill abandoned.

"Why are you getting the sheriff's car for him? Why are you picking up the sheriff's car for him?" asked McNary.

The deputy stated, "Hope I look good on camera."

"The sheriff drove here, why are you taking it away for him?" McNary asked.

"I have nothing to say to you," said the deputy.

Clayton County Commissioners have discussed Hill's request but they have not voted on it.
