Atlanta police say a man who tried to rob a group of people camping out at a shoe store on Moreland Avenue was shot and killed by one of the customers.
Sgt. John Chafee, a spokesman for the Atlanta police, said the gunman approached a group of people who were waiting in line for the store to open at about 5:30 a.m. Saturday. One of the victims pulled his own gun and shot the suspect killing him.
Chafee said several witnesses were interviewed and the shooting appears to be self defense. No charges have been filed but the investigation is continuing.
The medical examiner office identified the robber as 36-year-old Sandy Ezzard of Atlanta. According to court records Ezzard had been arrested multiple times for crimes that included assault with a deadly weapon.
The shooter Marvin L. Jones, 31, is not expect to face any charges.
