AKRON, OH (WOIO) -

A 40-year-old man and a 13-year-old boy were killed in an accident on I-76 in Akron Monday night.

The Medical Examiner has identified the 13-year-old as Garrett Bradley Han from Pismo Beach, California and the 40-year-old as Patrick Owen from Pismo Beach, California.

Akron Police say shortly before 8:00 p.m. Monday, a semi-tractor trailer was traveling eastbound on Interstate 76 in the middle lane near Grant Street when the driver stopped in traffic for a traffic backup.

Another tractor-trailer traveling behind the first semi-tractor trailer that was stopped in traffic failed to control his vehicle and struck the right rear portion of the trailer.

Both victims were in the truck that was rear-ended.

The drive of the first semi-tractor trailer was transported to Akron General Medical Center where his injuries do not appear to be life threatening.

Traffic was backed-up for several hours until crews could clear the area.

The accident remains under investigation.
