MARIETTA, GA (CBS46) -

A Roswell mom remained behind bars Wednesday morning after police say she stole a truck and lead them on a chase....with her two small children along for the ride.

Police identified her as Nicole Terria Evans, 27. She faced a number of charges in Carroll County including aggravated assault, cruelty to children, and driving with an expired license. Marietta police said she would also face charges there as well.

The ordeal started, according to Marietta police, when Evans tried to carjack a cab driver at a Marietta bus stop Tuesday afternoon. She had her two girls with her, estimated by police to be around two years old. When she couldn't steal the cab, police said Evans ran across the street, with her children, to a Chevron gas station at 811 South Marietta Parkway and stole a Ford F-150 truck.  The owner was inside buying cigarettes and had left the truck running in the parking lot.

The truck's owner chased after Evans and tried to prevent her from driving away by hanging on to the vehicle through the window. He was thrown off. Police said he suffered minor injuries.

Police said a GPS on the truck led them to Carroll County, where they tried to pull over Evans on I-20 Westbound at the Post Road exit. She then lead police on an erratic chase resulting in half-a-dozen entrances and exits onto the interstate. Police said the chase ended when she hit a canine officer and spun out on I-20 Eastbound in Temple. The dog was not injured, and Evans did not resist arrest.

Evans' girls were not wearing seat belts or in any child restraint seats. They were not harmed and returned to their father in Roswell.

Arresting officers said Evans "seemed out of it", but they didn't believe alcohol or drugs were involved.

Evans is currently in the Carroll County Detention Center and will likely face a judge Thursday.
