Suspect's photo released in DeKalb County Kroger parking lot shooting

DeKalb County police released the picture of a man suspected in the shooting of a child in the Kroger parking lot on Memorial Drive and North Hairston Road Wednesday afternoon.

Police said the suspect snatched a gold chain off a man outside a Chase bank near the Kroger.

A good Samaritan spotted the suspect outside the Kroger and tried to stop him. Police said that's when the alleged robber fired off more than a dozen shots.

One of the bullets struck the good Samaritan's 2-year-old son who was in the family's car with his mother.

"A 2-year-old child was shot by this individual and there is nothing more precious than the life of a child," said DeKalb Police Chief Cedric Alexander at a news conference Thursday.

Police said they are working with the bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms to identify and catch the suspect.

"We're going to do everything that we can in this department day and night and we're going to be relentless about it," said Alexander. "We're going to find who did this."

The child was taken by ambulance to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston and is listed in stable condition.

If you know who the man is, please call Crime Stoppers at 404-577-8477. A $7,000 reward is being offered for information leading to an arrest and conviction of the suspect.
