GWINNETT COUNTY, GA (CBS46) -

A federal park ranger is recovering after a woman shot him then killed herself at Buford Dam Park at Lake Lanier.

Ranger D. P. Wright approached Qiana Moore just after 10 p.m. Wednesday to tell her the park was closed, police said.

Moore did not argue with Wright. Instead, she pulled out a gun and opened fire, striking Wright once in the abdomen, police said.

The ranger staggered to Buford Dam Road and flagged down help.

Investigators found Moore dead inside her car, apparently from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, police said.

Parents who visit the park said they were concerned for the safety of their children.

Grace Yan, who came to the park for a picnic with her 3-year-old daughter, Amy, worried about the little girl's safety.

"I will never come here late," Yan said. "Maybe I will think about it more before I come here."

Mike Enson came to park for lunch with his sons Liam and Evan could not believe the news.

"I would never have thought of something like that here. It's crazy," Enson said.

Wright is expected to make a full recovery.

Investigators are looking into whether Moore was trying to die at the hands of a law enforcement officer.
