GA Power asks to increase rates

Posted: Updated:
ATLANTA, GA (CBS46) -

Georgia Power has asked permission of the Georgia Public Service Commission to increase its rates about 6 percent.

The request will allow Georgia Power to recover costs of recent and future investments needed to maintain customer service.

Rates for residential customers using 1,000 kilowatt-hours each month would see about a $4.55 monthly increase.  Retailers would see about a $7.84 increase.

The Commission is set to decide on the increase in December.

If approved, rate changes would take effect Jan. 1, 2014.
