Councilwoman wants East Point manager ousted from job

Posted: Updated:

East Point City Councilwoman Sharonda Hubbard said she wants City Manager Reggie Taylor fired. According to an email sent to residents, Hubbard doesn't believe Taylor is working hard enough.

In the email Hubbard said in part, "Currently our city manager only works 4 hours a day. I've received numerous complaints that the city manager is very difficult, at best, to reach and due to this, matters of the city are not being taken care of. This is simply unacceptable under any conditions."

Hubbard did not respond to several phone calls from CBS Atlanta inquiring about her stance. Some East Point residents said they are fed up.

"They keep raising my taxes and they keep fighting among themselves. How they get to the point where they are raising your taxes and fighting among themselves, I don't know," said Dudley White, an East Point business owner.

"I think this is another example of bad government and bad politics," said Freddye Phillips, an East Point homeowner.

City officials acknowledge Taylor has missed time at work but they said they can't say more because of federal privacy laws dealing with medical leave. Monday night Hubbard is expected to ask the full City Council for a vote to fire Taylor.

Jean Wilson, an East Point homeowner, said that would be the wrong move.

"This city manager has taken on a major thing in this city. We already know the things that are wrong and he came in and tried to straighten them out. He should stay."
