Jennifer Herndon's husband and the father of the couple's five children is behind bars. Brandon Herndon was arrested after police said the 25-year-old shot two men over loud music at the Ridge Stone Townhomes on Holcomb Road. But Jennifer Herndon said investigators have it all wrong.

"It is just hard because he should not be behind bars. I don't know what to tell the kids. They keep asking, but I don't know what to say," Jennifer Herndon said.
Jennifer Herndon said it all started Monday afternoon when her husband and their neighbors got into an argument over noise outside their front door.

"My husband asked why the woman was tapping in front of our door. She said because she felt like it. Her brother said because his sister felt like it. It just escalated at that point. They were going back and forth, back and forth, back and forth," Jennifer Herndon said.

Jennifer Herndon said Monday was not the first time the couple has had problems with their neighbors. She said she's called police a half dozen times over the last couple of months.

"This has been an ongoing thing. I have asked the apartment complex to move us. I asked them two months ago to move us," Jennifer Herndon said.

Monday, the situation got out of hand quickly.

"They assaulted him. They jumped on him. It was four of them, the mom, the sister, the cousin and the brother. They jumped on him. He fired to get them off. Somebody got hit. I didn't want it to go that way, but what was he supposed to do?" said Jennifer Herndon.

Jennifer Herndon showed CBS Atlanta News her husband's firearms permit. She said her husband is the real victim.

"He has never been in trouble for anything. I don't think he has a juvenile record. He has never been arrested for anything," Jennifer Herndon said.

DeKalb County police are still investigating the facts in the case. Brandon Herndon remains behind bars, charged with two counts of felony aggravated assault.

The two men shot remain in the hospital in stable condition. CBS Atlanta News attempted to contact them and their family members but were unsuccessful.
