For several hours on Wednesday night, homes in a Smyrna neighborhood were dark.
It wasn't the start to the Fourth of July holiday that many of these neighbors had hoped for.
Bennie Kirkland was watching a show that was cut short because of the power outage.
"Don't you know, just the one you wanted to see, it cut off," Kirkland said.
Just down the street from Kirkland's home, Georgia Power crews worked on replacing three poles that supported power lines in the area. Crews told CBS Atlanta that a large tree snapped in half, bringing down the poles.
The power outage forced Kirkland to switch forms of entertainment for the night.
"After the electricity went out, I just sat down and started reading a book," Kirkland said.
