Cobb County preps for heavy rainfall

Posted: Updated:

Steady and at times heavy rains have pushed one Cobb County district to take action.

Cobb County fire said residents who live on or near Columns Drive and the Chattahoochee River could see a delay in fire protection and emergency medical services, due to flooded streets. This includes those who reside on or near Riverlook Parkway, Riverview Drive and live in the Atlanta Country Club community.

In a statement issued by Cobb County District Two commissioner, Bob Ott, the county is monitoring the water levels in Sope Creek and the Chattahoochee River.

The county has planned to place a fully staffed fire engine in the area, in case streets become impassable. The unit will be located at the clubhouse, in the River Heights Apartments complex, and will remain there as long as there is a threat of flooding streets.

If flooding occurs, barricades will be placed at the intersections of River Knoll Drive and Atlanta Country Club Drive, as well as Johnson Ferry Road and Columns Drive.

The Cobb County Police Department, and the Cobb County Department of Transportation are part of the coordination efforts.
