Police search for gunmen in deadly DeKalb County shooting
STONE MOUNTAIN, GA (CBS46) -
DeKalb County police are searching for two gunmen after two people were shot inside of car in Stone Mountain.
Police told CBS Atlanta News that one of the victims later died from their wounds at a local hospital.
Officers responded to the scene on Forest East Drive after receiving 911 calls from concerned neighbors who heard gunfire just after 10:30 Thursday night.
When officers arrived they found the two shooting victims still inside of a Lincoln Mercury Towncar.
Investigators believe the victims, after being shot, tried to escape but crashed shortly after the shooting.
Eyewitnesses told investigators one of the shooters ran into a nearby house. Police then surround that home and the SWAT team was called.
"SWAT team did make entry," said DeKalb County Captain Lisa Gassner. "They completed their search and we did not find anyone in the house."
Neighbors that spoke with CBS Atlanta News are upset that this happened so close to their homes.
"It could have been our house or it could have been my neighbor's house," said a frustrated Ryan Hodge, who was stopped from going to a relative's home. "My aunt lives on this block, my grandmother lives on this block and I know people that live on this block. So yeah I'm concerned."
If you have any information on this shooting you are asked to call DeKalb County's major felony unit.
