Police have arrested a former roommate in connection with the death of an East Point police officer.
Danielle Parker was arrested Tuesday evening in the shooting death of Chrystal Parker.
Chrystal Parker's father, Joseph Parker, would not comment on the relationship between Danielle Parker and his daughter. He said that he did not know Danielle Parker very well.
CBS Atlanta News found records that Danielle Parker had changed her name in Feb. 2012 from Darma Dixon.
"We have not determined if this was a break up of a couple," Cpl. Kay Lester said. "However, she was determined to be an ex-roommate and ex-house guest at the location."
The officer's home had been burglarized on June 16, according to investigators. They are working to determine if Danielle Parker was involved in that case. Chrystal Parker had recently kicked Danielle Parker out of the home, according to police.
"She told me $1,400 cash was taken from her house and all her jewelry was gone," said Prince Clement, who lives next door.
Clement said he was home Sunday but heard nothing unusual since people were setting off fireworks all night.
"There were fireworks going everywhere," said Clement. "You can't tell if there were guns shot or something."
Chrystal Parker was awarded East Point officer of the year in 2012. Police Chief Woodrow Blue said she was a huge asset to the department.
"She was also as field training officer, trained a large segment of new officers coming into department," Blue said. "I had slated her for temporary appointment to sergeant when I first came in as police chief because of the outstanding work she had done in the community."
Investigators said evidence found at the murder scene and tips led them to Danielle Parker.
"Chrystal was a great friend, great sister, a great cop," Joe Parker, her brother, said. "Right now, we are wrapping up the final details so they [police] can finish their case."
The family said it has not yet made funeral arrangements. She was booked into the Fulton County Jail Tuesday night.
Danielle Parker is due in court for bond hearing on July 24.
