East Point police search for clues in ex-military man's death

Posted: Updated:

East Point police reached out to the public Tuesday seeking information involving the hit-and-run death of an ex-military man two weeks ago.

"Man, it brings back some sad memories. I'm going to miss him," Darryl Levette, the victim's brother, said.

Levette said a car struck and killed his younger brother Dwight two weeks ago near the intersection of Stanton Road and Fort Valley Drive in East Point.

"My brother was going to the store and I got a call that he had been hit by a car, and when I arrived he was lying in the street with a sheet on him. They said he had been hit twice and the person that hit him the first time left, had left the scene," Darryl Levette said.

Investigators said 58-year-old Dwight Levette was seen with another man just prior to being hit by a car. Police are trying to identify the person that was with Levette.

"This is the first time I've been back over here, so it's kind of hard for me to come this way now," Darryl Levette said.

There are several American flags placed at Dwight Levette's roadside memorial. His brother said he served in the Marines and didn't deserve to die this way.

"Someone saw something and if we could just get that information, we could get some closure. It's just sad, it's just sad to hit someone and run off and leave them like that," Darryl Levette said.

If you have any information in this case, you're asked to contact East Point police. Crime Stoppers Atlanta is also offering a $2,000 reward.
