Police looking for semi truck driver involved in fatal crash

Posted: Updated:

Gwinnett County Police want anyone who may have witnessed a fatal crash that happened Monday around 1 p.m. on I-85 southbound near Pleasant Hill Road to come forward.

Rabina Adnan, 34, a Duluth wife and mother of two, was killed when her family's SUV rolled over.

Investigators believe an 18-wheeler may have come into the SUV's lane, either hitting or forcing it into another truck. The SUV eventually rolled over off the highway, and Adnan was ejected. Her husband, Syed Iqbal, and their two young children were also in the SUV and survived. Adnan was not wearing a seatbelt, but the rest of her family was.

Now Gwinnett County Police want to know if anyone saw the truck that may have caused the accident. Jake Smith, with Gwinnett County Police, said a witness to the accident had followed a truck that he thought was involved and had given police that truck's information.

"The problem was that he actually lost sight of it for a short amount of time before he caught back up to it and was able to get some kind of distinct information," Smith said.

Smith said an investigator spoke to the driver, but has not charged him yet.

"From the investigator's preliminary investigation of the vehicle, there was not anything distinct as far as damage or marks on the tractor trailer that would lead him to believe that the truck definitely was a part of the accident," Smith said.

Smith also said that it is possible that the 18-wheeler didn't hit the family's car, and thus, may not have any marks on it. Smith added that the family's Nissan Pathfinder is in such bad state, that it's hard to see if it had been hit before rolling over.

"It's possible that the truck changing lanes simply forced the Pathfinder over," Smith said. "Rather than being struck by the 18-wheeler, it simply moved and was forced into the boxed truck."

If you think you may have information about the accident, please call Gwinnett County Police at (770) 513-5000.
