Supporters celebrate new animal shelter in Dekalb County

DECATUR, GA (CBS46) -

Animal lovers and supporters gathered Thursday night in Downtown Decatur to celebrate the new shelter for homeless pets in Dekalb County.

County commissioners finally agreed on a location to build a new $7 million animal shelter. Animal advocates say they couldn't be more pleased.

"We're excited to be apart of the process, we're helping Life Line to succeed and we look forward to the next celebration, which is the day we break ground," said Barbara Davis from Advocates For Dekalb Animals.

The site of the new animal shelter is off Chamblee-Dunwoody Rd. near PDK airport. Commissioners stalled for months, asking for more information about PDK and two other sites. They considered cost, location, and the ability to draw volunteers and adopt out animals.
