An Atlanta man wanted in connection for two dozen store robberies, and a bank robbery is now behind bars.
Officers with Atlanta police arrested Artavius Marcellus Brown, 23, in SE Atlanta Friday night. He was picked up in the Thomasville Heights area according to the Federal Bureau of Investigations.
The FBI had issued a statement two days prior to his arrest connecting Brown with the robbery of a PNC bank in Tucker, GA, on June 21, 2013.
Investigators said that Brown walked into the PNC around 4:45 p.m. and told the teller that he wanted to cash a check. Brown placed a book bag on the teller counter, and pulled out a handgun, demanding money. Once Brown was given an undisclosed amount of money, he left the bank.
Warrants were issued for Brown's arrest in the bank robbery, as well as the 24 store robberies. Those robberies are spread across the metro Atlanta area from Henry to Gwinnett Counties. Brown is accused of robbing 13 stores in DeKalb County, two in Atlanta, two in Lilburn, one in Lithonia, four in Gwinnett County and two in Henry County. Stores targeted were Dollar General and Family Dollar stores.
Crime Stoppers Greater Atlanta had offered a reward of up to $7,000 for information leading to the arrest and indictment of Brown.
