Cobb County mother accused of keeping kids in house of horrors

A Cobb County mother was arrested and accused of forcing her kids to live in a house of horrors.

Neika Wilson's home on Cunningham Road had no electricity and was filthy, police said.

CBS Atlanta discovered the odor inside the house was so overpowering it permeated the closed front door.

Police arrested Wilson last Thursday after a neighbor called and told them two of Wilson's children stopped by to ask for food.

Laura Mendez, who lives across the street, said she had seen four children at the home.

Mendez said, however, she rarely saw them leave the house.

Mendez feared the children were in danger.

"I did call police one time because there was a lot of yelling and from the children one time," Mendez said.

Police discovered Wilson had no electricity and no working toilet when they went to investigate.

Worst of all, officers said they found Wilson's 13-year-old son sleeping in a room crawling with insects.

Noel Ramirez, who lives around the corner, said she knew something was wrong when she heard and saw a woman and a man arguing frequently.

"I hear a lot of noise, a lot of fighting and whatnot," Ramirez said.

Pat Dobbs, another neighbor, had no idea children lived in such deplorable conditions.

"It's very surprising that people would even live like that," Dobbs said. "It's terrible to think you live here and the kids over there are suffering."

Wilson was released on a $2,000 property bond.

CBS Atlanta is working to confirm the status of her children.
