Passengers on an Allegiant Air flight experienced some tense moments after a fire on board the plane forces pilots to make an emergency landing at the Southwest Georgia Regional airport in Albany.
Albany Police say they received the call around 8:57pm Sunday that a fire was in the cargo department of the plane. It turned out to be a false positive warning, and there was no fire.
Authorities say Allegiant Air flight 863 has landed and all 155 passengers and six crew members got off safely.
Brian Davis, with Allegiant Air, says the plane took off from Cedar Rapids, Iowa and was scheduled to land in St. Petersburg, Florida. Davis says the pilots saw a warning light come on in the cockpit, saying there was a fire in the cargo department.
Davis says all of the passengers will be transported by bus to St. Petersburg.
