Auburn – The Gus Malzahn era started Friday as the Auburn
Tigers held their first practice session of the 2013 preseason. The Tigers
worked two hours and 30 minutes in a late afternoon session at the Auburn
Athletics Complex Practice Fields.
"It was really great to be out there on the practice
field with our players," said first-year head coach Gus Malzahn about the
opening practice. "The coaches were extremely excited and our players were too.
They've worked extremely hard to get to this point and it was a good
atmosphere."
"We divided up the first part of practice with the
emphasis on the older guys. We really let them get out there and show the
younger guys the pace and expectations."
Auburn returns to the practice field Saturday afternoon. The Tigers' season opener is Saturday, August 31, at Jordan-Hare Stadium versus Washington State. That game has a 6 p.m. Central kickoff.
