Local man killed in south Georgia plane crash

ALMA, GA (CBS46/AP) -

A Gwinnett County man was killed in a plane crash in south Georgia Sunday.

Kathleen Bergen with the Federal Aviation Administration stated the Hawker Beechcraft A36 single-engine aircraft crashed near Alma, GA. The crash site is about 70 miles northwest of Brunswick. The craft went down at about noon.

Bacon County Coroner Vic Peacock says Sid Shah, 58, of Tucker, and Shama Gamkhar died. Peacock stated that investigators believe the victims were husband and wife.

Peacock says the plane landed in a rural area and crashed into a cluster of trees.

The FAA said the plane was flying from Fernandina Beach, FL, to Lawrenceville, GA, when the crash happened.

The National Transportation Safety Board is in charge of the investigation and will determine probable cause of the accident.
