NFL blitzes bags at stadiums

ATLANTA (CBS ATLANTA) -

The NFL is launching a blitz on bags.

Starting Thursday night, the league will ban fans from carrying certain types of bags into stadiums around the country.

The ban includes backpacks, handbags and computer bags.

Small bags like clutches and freezer bags will be permitted.

The NFL said the new policy will increase security and speed fans' entry into stadiums.

Some fans are not so sure the ban will benefit anyone.

Ashley Drakeford said the ban is not fair, especially to parents of small children.

"You got to think about the children and things like that, diaper bags, they're going to need stuff like that," Drakeford said.

John Kastner said security is already tight enough at games.

"They wand you, they frisk you and you got woman's purse, they open that up and they search it," Kastner said.

Kevin Breault said he supports the new policy if it will shorten the time it takes to get into games and make the stadium safer.

"How much gear do you really need? It's probably a good idea," Breault said.
