Friends, neighbors and community leaders gathered Monday to honor a man who was shot and killed in an armed robbery outside a north Nashville market.
Darrell Lyndell Wright, 50, was killed Sunday while visiting his friend who owns the Church and Son Market on 15th Avenue North.
Police say two gunmen walked into the store around 6 p.m. and shot Wright before getting away with less than $10 in cash.
"For someone to come and do that to him, they robbed us. They didn't just rob his family, they robbed his friends as well," said neighbor Carl Nelson.
Many say Wright was well-known and loved in the neighborhood that locals refer to as The Bottom, and they say this is the first time something this violent has happened at Church and Son Market.
"Just stunned for something like this to happen in this neighborhood to this particular business," said the Rev. James Dunn, who was a friend of the victim.
Friends say Wright went to church at a congregation right up the street from the market on the morning he died, and even sang a solo before coming to the market.
Police are asking the community for assistance in identifying the two men responsible for Wright's murder. They are described as black men in their late teens or early 20s. They are each approximately six feet tall.
Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers at 74-CRIME.
