When you think of Walmart, you usually picture a giant box store with acres and acres of parking spots. Think of Georgia Tech's new Walmart store as a miniature version of the original.

The newest 'Walmart on Campus' opened Wednesday on the campus of the Georgia Institute of Technology.

"I couldn't wait for it to open," said Anthony Brown, a Georgia Tech sophomore. "I actually woke up around 7:30 just to be the first one in."

"It was like way more than I thought," said Andre Arencibia, also a Georgia Tech sophomore, "which is very nice because I don't have to go out of campus to get food."

The store is located just across the interstate from Tech's main campus. It occupies a 2,500 square feet space. That's a fraction of the square footage of the average Walmart store.

The Georgia Tech store is the third of its kind. The others are located at the University of Arkansas and Arizona State University.

Store manager Stacy Khorana said a number of business professionals who work in midtown Atlanta also are stopping by to check it out.

"You forgot milk? You can just run right in and grab those last-minute things you need on your way home," said Khorana.

The Walmart on Campus format has a full-service pharmacy, general convenience items and merchandise tailored to the campus.
