ATLANTA (CBS ATLANTA) -

The Cobb County sheriff is recovering at Grady Memorial Hospital after he and  his chief deputy were involved in an accident on I-75 south at Northside Drive.

The accident happened Thursday around 2 p.m.

Cobb County Sheriff Neil Warren and Chief Deputy Milton Beck were traveling southbound on I-75 in the HOV lane when they were struck by a Ford pickup truck pulling a trailer.

The Ford crossed all southbound lanes when the driver of the truck lost control of the vehicle as he merged onto 75 from Northside Drive. He was hauling an excavator.

Both Sheriff Neil Warren and Chief Deputy Milton Beck were injured, but only the Sheriff was taken to the hospital.

As of Friday afternoon, Warren is still at the hospital undergoing additional testing and Chief Beck is back to work.

The driver of the pickup truck, Jeffrey Ronald Collins, 40, from Loganville, was charged with failure to maintain lane.

He and his passenger, Timothy Lamont Johnson, age 48 from Lithonia, were not injured.
