Kristen Howard was in the Bartow County Juvenile Court Friday.

She consented to her 8-month-old son Kaidyn staying in foster care, after she told the judge she was riding around getting high with her friend Samantha Barrett.

Howard's uncle Rodney Wright was at juvenile court with her.

"We're just pleased with the direction that we are headed today, that Christian has cooperated fully with the court system and authorities to rectify whatever issues need to be rectified, and to move forward with what is best for Kaidyn," said Wright.

Police said, at some point, Barrett stole Howard's car with Kaidyn still in the back seat and led officers on a high speed chase Wednesday.

Barrett crashed and then tried to run from police. They caught her and grabbed Kaidyn out of the abandoned car.

The child was taken into DFACS custody afterwards.

Barrett is charged with attempting to elude an officer, child cruelty, reckless conduct and driving on a suspended license.

Barrett led Georgia State Troopers along with deputies from Henry, Bartow and Butts counties on the chase.

Police said at times, Barrett reached speeds of 100 mph, investigators said. Barrett made her first appearance on Thursday.

According to reports, DFACS already had an open case before the kidnapping incident happened.

Howard told the judge she had a drug problem and plans to get help.

"This is her decision. Her decision to do the right thing," said Wright.
