Atlanta breaks temperature record for a second-straight day

Posted: Updated:
ATLANTA (CBS ATLANTA) -

Atlanta's high temperature on Friday was only 67 degrees which is the coolest high temperature on record for August 16th.  The previous record was 70 degrees from 1892.

This is the second-straight day Atlanta has broken such a record.

Friday's 67 degree high is also the coolest August high temperature in Atlanta since 1986, and the fifth-coolest August high temperature in Atlanta on record.

The average temperature in Atlanta for this time of year is 88 degrees, and it was 90 degrees as recent as Monday.

The cooler temperatures are a result of an easterly wind which is transporting cooler temperatures into North Georgia from the northeast U.S.
