GAINESVILLE, GA (CBS46) -

Gainesville police are investigating an officer-involved shooting.

Police said around 4:30 a.m., officers were conducting a traffic stop on a vehicle on Skelton Road at Bowman Road.

The driver of the vehicle, who police identified as Tracey Marie Dean, attempted to elude officers and struck and injured one of the officers, according to police.

Officers opened fire on the vehicle, police said, while Dean was attempting to strike another officer.

Dean fled the scene. A short time later, a homeowner about a half mile away called 911 after he saw a suspicious vehicle in his yard with an injured woman.

Police said Dean and the officers were taken to the hospital. Dean is listed in serious condition.

"The officers were able to walk away. The extent of their injuries, I do not know at this time. They are expected to be OK," said Gainesville police Corporal Kevin Holbrook.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is currently investigating the officers' use of deadly force.
