Nicholas Selby humbled by being in the limelight

ATLANTA (CBS ATLANTA) -

Georgia Institute of Technology sophomore Nicholas Selby says he is enjoying his 15 minutes of fame.

Selby became an Internet sensation after a portion of his seven-minute convocation speech went viral.

The video had more than 1.8 million views on YouTube by Friday morning.

Selby's inspirational speech, which included Also Sprach Zarathustra by Richard Strauss, more commonly known as the theme music from 2001: A Space Odyssey, made people from all over want to go to Georgia Tech.

"If you want to change the world, you're at Georgia Tech, you can do that," he told the incoming freshmen. "If you want to build the Iron Man suit, you're in Georgia Tech, you can do that!"

"First time I saw this video it made me want to go to Tech and get a degree. After I quit my civil engineering job that is," said CBS Atlanta News Facebook fan Jeff Swiderski.

"That was the whole point. I wanted to share my excitement for Georgia Tech, get them pumped, and Georgia Tech has been great through this whole thing. They've been very supportive through the entire process," said Selby.

But despite Selby's exuberant personality during the speech, when he stopped by CBS Atlanta's studio Friday morning to talk about what it was like to give the speech, he was nothing but humble.

When asked about what it was like to come into the studio and have people want to take pictures with him, Selby said, "Well I want to take pictures with you guys. That's really cool."

"I'm enjoying my 15 minutes of fame, I really am. I'm just having a lot of fun," said Selby of the experience.

Selby, who is from Arizona, is part of the mechanical engineering class of 2015.
