A Cobb County couple was arrested after authorities found two children living in filth.

Carlton and Sharon Hightower of Power Springs were arrested Thursday.

The warrant stated the couple allowed a 14-month-old girl and a 9-year-old girl to live deplorable conditions. Animal feces and urine was found throughout the home, a roach infestation was present and rotting garbage was allowed to collect.

The youngest child had such a severe diaper rash that the top layer of skin appeared to be gone, according to the report. Her diaper was filled with urine and feces and appeared to not have been changed in the last 24 hours.

Carlton and Sharon Hightower each face two counts each of contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Sharon Hightower was also charged with first-degree cruelty to children.

Carlton Hightower was released Friday on $15,000 bond, and Sharon Hightower was released early Saturday on $20,000 bond.
