Cobb Co. homeowner catches thief on camera

Posted: Updated:

A family was already hit once by thieves before taking action by installing surveillance cameras outside their home.

"We didn't feel secure anymore," said Julia Campbell.

This time cameras the Campbell family added caught the crook red handed.

The man entered the carport early Sunday morning while the family was sleeping.

The thief took off with a leaf blower and weedeater, but not before looking right into the camera.

"If he looked at the camera and noticed that it was there, he didn't care. He was casual about it," said Campbell.

It's the man's calmness that has the Campbells and neighbors like Lynda Weatherford concerned.

"We all have children around here. It's very scary," said Weatherford. "If somebody was to come out and catch them red handed, who's to say somebody won't get hurt?"

No one was hurt in this case.

Cobb County police told CBS Atlanta News they like that the family installed the cameras.

Sgt. Dana Pierce said that since they went beyond just posting the video online and filed a police report, the video can be priceless in court.

"It is a silent, unbiased account as to what happened," said Pierce.

Police want to hear from anyone who may recognize the man in the video.
