ATLANTA (CBS ATLANTA) -

Police arrested a man who is accused of hitting two women with his car and then leaving the scene.

Byron Devon Perry, 38, who was on probation, turned himself in to the Fulton County Jail this week.

Perry faces nine charges, the most serious being serious injury by vehicle and hit-and-run.

After Perry ran the Ford vehicle into a brick wall near a park on Peeples Street just before midnight Friday, several neighbors reported seeing him run away from the scene.

Adrienne Smith, 22, and Brianna Johnson, 21, were sitting on the wall when the vehicle ran into them.

Smith was pinned beneath the car and later had to have part of her left leg amputated.

Johnson suffered a crushed pelvis, and her mother said she will need to undergo intense therapy to have any chance of walking again.

Perry was employed by Avis Rental Car. He stole the vehicle involved in the accident from the lot.
