BROOKHAVEN, GA (CBS46) -

City officials in the new city of Brookhaven are taking over the maintenance of 11 parks in DeKalb County. The transition occurred Tuesday.

Brookhaven Mayor J. Max Davis made the announcement with other officials at Wednesday night's kickoff of the city's Food Truck Roundup event.

"We have a lot of park space, almost 270 acres, and they just weren't being maintained to the excellence that the people in Brookhaven expect. But, that was one of the main [reasons] for us to form the city to begin with," said Davis.

The food truck gathering was Brookhaven's first official event.
