Report: Officer struck by suspect's car while serving warrant

GWINNETT COUNTY, GA (CBS46) -

Police are searching for a 25-year-old who allegedly fled and struck an officer serving a warrant in Gwinnett County.

According to police, Chezare Haynes was wanted for a burglary and several outstanding felony and misdemeanor arrest warrants.

When officers were serving a warrant on Sept. 1, Haynes fled a home on Midridge Drive and led officers on a chase.

Haynes fled the house in a car and drove over stop sticks and hit an officer, according to reports.

Officers shot at Haynes' car striking it several times, but Haynes did not stop. He continued to flee from the scene, according to officers on scene.

Haynes ditched the car at Brentwood Down Apartments in Lilburn.

Gwinnett County Police continue to search for Haynes.

The investigation into the shooting is ongoing and the officers involved with the shooting have been placed on administrative leave.
