Driver killed after getting out of stalled car on I-285

COLLEGE PARK, GA (CBS46) -

A male driver was killed after he stepped out of his stalled car in the eastbound lanes of I-285.

The driver had walked around to the back of his car when a second driver struck his car. The male driver of the first car was pronounced dead at the scene, according to College Park police. The incident happened near the Old National Highway overpass around 2 a.m.

Eastbound lanes were shut down to clear the accident. Lanes were reopened around 4:30 a.m.

The Fulton County Medical Examiner's office has identified the victim, but his name has not been released, pending notification of next of kin.

The incident is still under investigation. The second driver remained at the scene. No word on whether the driver of the second car was injured.
