DEKALB COUNTY, GA (CBS46) -

A DeKalb County police officer is under arrest and accused of trafficking drugs.

Ofc. William Miguel is charged with conspiracy to traffic methamphetamine.

Investigators from the federal Drug Enforcement Administration and the Gwinnett County District Attorney's office arrested Miguel Friday morning at DeKalb County Police headquarters.

Miguel, 43, is an 11-year veteran who most recently worked with DeKalb's gang unit.

Police would not tell CBS Atlanta what led them to Miguel or how long he was suspected of allegedly trafficking drugs.

DeKalb County Police Chief, Cedric Alexander, said investigators took swift action because there was a preponderance of evidence against Miguel.

"When we have anyone go outside the law, we're going to take immediate action to get them out of the department as quickly as we can," Alexander said.

DeKalb placed Miguel on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
