SANDY SPRINGS, GA (CBS46) -

The Fulton County Medical Examiner's office released the name of the man and woman killed in the townhouse fire Monday morning.

The man was identified as Robert Burt, 53. The elderly woman was identified as Frances Burt, 95. Both were from Sandy Springs. They were pulled from the burning home just before 1 a.m., firefighters said.

The unit is located in a small cluster of townhouses known as River Rill, located on North River Parkway.

Neighbor Diana Ponder told CBS Atlanta News that the victims were a mother and son who had lived in the home for decades.

Ponder and her son tried to warn them about the fire, but their front door was too hot to knock on, so they called 911.

"I kept thinking if I could have smelled that fire, smoke sooner. All I could think of is it's that all day I'm watching TV, and they're next door dying," said Ponder.

Three firefighters suffered minor injuries. One hurt his leg as he carried the woman out of the home. Another suffered from heat exhaustion.

"We have one that has second-degree burns to his hands," said Assistant Chief Mark Duke. "They've been released from the hospital and should be back to work in a few days, we hope, as long as everything goes well, but nothing critical."

Authorities said there weren't any smoke detectors in the home. The fire started in the kitchen near the stove.

The FCME has not ruled on the cause of death for Robert or Frances Burt.
