Repair work completed on Clairmont Rd. water main break

DEKALB COUNTY, GA (CBS46) -

Repairs have been completed on a 30" water main in the 2900 block of Clairmont Road, and a boil water advisory has been lifted.

Watershed crews have been working on the compromised water line since Sept. 4.

The cause of the damage was the failure of a transition joint between two pipes: a cast-iron pipe in place since 1941 and a steel pipe which was added in 1963.

In order to complete the repairs, Watershed Management reduced pressure in the area. When a low pressure event occurs, a potential health hazard may exist in those areas of lowered pressure from backflow and/or back-siphonage of water into the water distribution system.

The water was restored to the system Friday and the boil water advisory was issued. Technicians began sampling the area Friday afternoon. The initial results came back clear on Saturday. The boil water advisory was lifted Monday afternoon.

Watershed crews will continue to work on external repairs and restoration of the excavation sites and pavement throughout the week.
