Hall County deputies arrested a 21-year-old who allegedly pretended to be an officer after committing a burglary.

On Sept. 5, deputies were called to Atlanta Highway at Frederick Street in Gainesville because a cab driver said an armed man called him pretending to be an officer.

The cab driver picked up Carlos Ildefonso Lopez in the Willow Ridge subdivision.

Lopez allegedly showed a police badge to the driver and got into his car with a laptop. He instructed the cab driver to take him wherever.

The driver created a story about having to return to the taxi company's office and dialed 911.

Lopez exited the taxi and walked away leaving all of his items inside the cab, according to the driver.

The driver followed Lopez until deputies arrived and took him into custody.

During the course of the investigation, deputies learned that Lopez used a security officer's badge, and was involved in a burglary shortly before calling the cab.

Lopez, of Gainesville, was charged with impersonating an officer, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and first-degree burglary.
