ROSWELL, GA (CBS46) -

Less than two weeks ago, CBS Atlanta News was the only station to bring you the story of a 97-year-old pilot whose dream was to fly again.

We are sad to report that Vilma Hofer died peacefully Monday, surrounded by her family.

Hofer was the first female pilot in her native country, Slovakia.

She and her family moved to Atlanta in 1957.

Her wish of a lifetime came true Aug. 29 when Bi-plane Adventures took Hofer and her son up for a 45-minute flight over north Cobb County.

Her son said, "She took her final flight to heavens gate."
