A Cobb County judge has sentenced a former City of Smyrna jailer to 10 years in prison for stealing $600 from a jail inmate.
District Attorney's spokeswoman Kim Isaza says 31-year-old Dustin Blake Otwell altered personal property documents of a man who was arrested and tried blaming the discrepancy on the officer who arrested the man.
Isaza says Otwell was unaware that the arresting officer counted the man's money in front of him and was recorded doing so on his patrol-car video camera.
Officials say Otwell had been working as a jailer for less than six months when he was arrested in early February. He's been ordered to serve at least two years of his sentence.
