BeltLine officer nabs robbery, assault suspect

ATLANTA (CBS ATLANTA) -

Police arrested a 48-year-old in connection to an assault and robbery near 510 Muse Ave. in southwest Atlanta.

On Sept. 10, the victim told police she was physically assaulted and her purse was stolen as she was walking home on the Belt Line from a gas station.

The victim said she was attacked from behind and punched in the face.

The following day, the victim spotted the suspect in the Kroger parking lot along Cascade Road and called police.

A BeltLine officer was patrolling the BeltLine West End Trail and responded to her call.

The victim told the officer that the suspect tried to sell the phone back for $20.

The suspect was later identified as Philip Bright.

Bright allegedly tried to flee from the Beltline officer, but was arrested after a short chase.

According to reports, Bright has a sexual battery warrant out of the Fulton County Sheriff's Office.
