Report: Forsyth Co. man threatened to shoot up school

Posted: Updated:

Forsyth County authorities arrested a man for terroristic threats.

According to reports, Joseph John Medved threatened to shoot up a school with a long rifle. The comment was made when Medved was at a medical facility in Fulton County.

On September 11, Medved attempted to purchase a gun at a pawn shop in Forsyth County.

A 24 hour background check wait prevented him from obtaining the rifle.

Medved went back to the pawn shop on the morning of Sept. 12, where he was able to purchase a shotgun once his background check was cleared, according to deputies.

After the purchase, reports were made about Medved shooting the shotgun near a road at his home in Forsyth County.

The Fulton County Sheriff's Office was able to secure a warrant for terroristic threats and acts for the comments he made on Sept. 11.

Medved was arrested at his home by the U.S. Marshall's Service and the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office.

Medved was granted a $50K bond Friday. He has been ordered to stay awayfrom schools and firearms.

His next scheduled appearance is September 27.
