CHEROKEE COUNTY, GA (CBS46) -

Two arrests were made after an 11-month investigation into the death of a 17-month-old child.

Cherokee Sheriff's Office detectives arrested the child's mother, Jamie Beck, 23, and her ex-boyfriend, 31-year-old Michael Naples.

Both are charged with felony murder and cruelty to children in the first degree.

The investigation began on Oct. 14, 2012 when deputies were sent to Red Bird Way in Woodstock. Deputies found Kaylee Rayne Johnson unresponsive.

Beck told deputies she got up to get a glass of water, and noticed the door to the basement was open.

She then saw Kaylee lying on the ground at the bottom of the stairs.

Kaylee was taken to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, but died two days later as a result of her injuries.

Cherokee investigators received the final GBI Crime lab results in recent weeks which listed the cause of death as blunt force trauma to the head and the manner of death as homicide.

It was determined that the injuries to the child were not indicative of those of a child falling down stairs.
