Rain, parking issues expected at Music Midtown

If you're among the 100,000 people planning to attend Music Midtown this weekend, organizers advise that you take MARTA and bring a poncho.

CBS Atlanta Meteorologist Jennifer Valdez is forecasting rain during much of the day Saturday.

The two-day Music Midtown 2013 starts Friday at 4 p.m. at Piedmont Park. The lineup includes 22 bands.

Friday's lineup features Cake, Drivin N' Cryin, Jane's Addiction, Journey, North Mississippi Allstars, Phoenix, The Mowgli's and 2 Chainz.

Saturday's lineup features Arctic Monkeys, Capital Cities, Imagine Dragons, Kendrick Lamar, Mona, Queens of the Stone Age, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Reignwolf, Tegan & Sara, The Black Lips, The Neighbourhood, The Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs, Weezer and ZZ Ward.

"It's exceeded our expectations every year, including this year," said festival founder and organizer Peter Conlon. "We're way ahead of where we thought we'd be."

Other weekend events that are expected to increase pedestrian and vehicular traffic in the metro Atlanta area include the PGA Tour Championship at East Lake Golf Club and the Georgia Tech football game. Tech takes on North Carolina at Bobby Dodd Stadium at noon on Saturday.

The Atlanta Police Department is asking the public to be mindful of these events. Officers advise event-goers to take MARTA because parking will be a challenge.

Event-goers also should pay attention to their surroundings and call 911 to report any suspicious activity, police said. Officers ask visitors to remove any valuables from vehicles.

"Officers routinely respond to reports of laptops, GPS units, tablet computers, purses, firearms and other valuables stolen from unattended vehicles," wrote a police spokesman in a news advisory. "Leave these items at home, or take them with you to avoid becoming a victim of this preventable crime."
