TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

A former Tucson Police officer who was fired from the department last month is facing criminal charges after being arrested today.

According to a news release, Benjamin Gaballa was booked into the Pima County Jail for two counts of sexual abuse and two counts of sexual assault.

Gaballa, who was a probationary employee, had been placed on administrative leave in August after a female, who was booked into the Pima County Jail, claimed Gaballa engaged in criminal misconduct, police said.

He was terminated from the Tucson Police Department on Aug. 22, according to a news release.

Investigators discovered Gaballa falsified an official police report, misrepresented facts to his supervisor and mishandled evidence, police said.

In evening court Wednesday, his lawyer argued Gaballa is not a flight risk and asked the judge for a reasonable bond so Gaballa could be with his wife and three-year-old.

His bond was set at $10,000.

Gaballa was hired in September of 2012. Following training, he was assigned as an Operations Division West patrol officer.
