ATLANTA (CBS ATLANTA) -

A woman accused of killing an 11-month-old child in her care was found guilty on six of eight charges.

Maria Owens was charged with murder, felony murder, aggravated assault and cruelty to children in the first degree in connection with the beating death of 11-month-old Jaylan Kelly.

Sentencing will take place on Oct. 10.

On June 1, 2011, emergency crews were called to a home in the 3000 block of Broadleaf Trail in Fairburn after receiving a report about an unresponsive child.

Jaylan Kelly was taken to Eggleston Children's Hospital, where he later died.

The medical examiner ruled the cause of death as blunt force trauma of the torso, which also resulted in massive internal bleeding, according to police reports.
