NASA cancels school educational video conference due to govt shutdown

Posted: Updated:

Some unlikely victims of the partial government shutdown include children.

A local elementary school will not get the hands-on education on robotics thanks to the government shutdown.

Students at Clark Creek Elementary in Acworth were scheduled to have a video conference with NASA this week. But NASA officials were forced to cancel because of the cutbacks.

There is some good news here. The school managed to turn the unfortunate lesson into a teachable moment.

"They were interested to find out how the government works, how do we pass a budget, what is the process for that, what happens when both sides of the aisle come together to make decisions for our government and how does that affect the executive branch," said the principal of Clark Creek Elementary, Dr. Jennifer Scrivner.

NASA has since suspended all education programs and changed all messages to reflect the shutdown and its consequences.
